[Classes 132 (iii) and 146 (ii).] Picture puzzles, crosswords, &c., with alternative solutions are composed or solved by two sets of bands movable at right angles to each other and bearing representations which are brought into required juxtaposition to show through celluloid covered cut-out and printed mounts. The two sets of bands i, w rotate on reels m with spacing partitions o and on the squared portions t of spools with a rim x keeping the band in position and with a semicylindrical fluted surface s for winding purposes. The spindles for the spools, and reels are fixed to grooved supports d, Fig. 2, on an inner frame f which is covered by a frame c, Fig. 1, having a window covered mount b and slots a for access to the spools s. Both frames can be covered with mounts if desired. The spaces k between the bands l are covered by the bars of the cut-out mount. In a modification, Fig. 5, one set of bands is replaced by a wide band u having alternate sections cut out and rotated by winders h on rollers q. Elastic bands can be employed or means are used for maintaining the tension in the bands if of linen or tape. The bands may be interwoven, binding of the bands being minimized by using smooth thin bands, and double rows of spools and reels being used on each side of the inner frame. The frames, spools and reels are made from bakelite or wood and the bands may be made from toy balloon materials.
