[Class 6 (i).] Apparatus for hauling soil-scrapers, ploughs, reapers, &c. backwards and forwards for mining or agricultural purposes, comprises in combination two anchored blocks 10, 11 spaced apart on one side of the area to be treated, an adjustable block 12 between them, a haulage rope 19 passing over the adjustable block to one side of the working implement 18 and a pair of ropes 32, 33 for effecting adjustment of the adjustable block 12 in a direction transverse to that of scraping &c., one of which adjustment ropes passes over one anchored block and is connected to one side of the adjustable block while the second passes over the other anchored block and is connected to the opposite side of the adjustable block, the apparatus also comprising winding means separate from the adjustable block and from the anchored blocks for each of the said ropes and for any rope 20 passing to the other side of the implement. A rope 30 anchored at both ends near the blocks 10, 11 may pass through the adjustable block 12 to prevent it from moving towards the implement 18. The winding mechanism shown is located at the apex of a triangle the base of which extends between the blocks, 10, 11. It comprises a motor 13, a power shaft 14, and winding drums 15, 16, 16, 27 provided with clutches. The haulage rope 19 passes from the drum 16 over a pulley in the adjustable block 12 to the implement 18, while the other haulage rope 20 passes direct from the drum 15 to the implement. The ropes 32, 33 are wound on the drums 14, 27, respectively. In a modified arrangement, the winding mechanism is at one side of the area to be treated and one adjustment rope passes over the anchored block 10 and is secured to one side of the adjustable block 12 while the other passes over both adjustable blocks 10, 11 and is secured to the other side of the block 12. Any or all of the winding drums may be manually operated.
