Abstract
417,787. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MAYO, C. G., 17, Alexandra Road, Rugby. April 10, 1933, No. 10709. [Class 38 (ii).] In a three phase selfcompounded transformer having main and shunt cores delta connected tertiary windings linking only the shunt cores are employed for the suppression of triple frequency harmonics therein. One leg of a three phase core comprises a main core 6 carrying a secondary winding 2 and a shunt core 5, a primary winding 3 linking cores 5 and 6. Triple frequency fluxes produced by magnetic saturation in the shunt core 5 may be suppressed by windings 1 and 7 arranged on the three legs of the transformer in two delta connected sets but in accordance with the invention these harmonics are suppressed by tertiary windings 4 arranged in delta on the shunt cores. A reactor may be connected in series with the delta connected tertiary windings 4 and a controlled triple harmonic voltage allowed to appear at the secondary terminals.
