Abstract

416,926. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. BUDD, H., Floyds, Charlton Road, Old Charlton, London. Feb. 25, 1933, No. 5758. [Class 106 (v).] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquid comprises in combination, a delivery tube 6 adapted to be fitted to the outlet of the supply container (not shown) a measuring chamber 18 having a limited vertical sliding movement on the tube, means for forming an air tight joint between said delivery tube and the chamber, a spring-controlled valve within the measuring chamber coaxial with the delivery tube and means carried by the valve adapted to close the inner end of the delivery tube. In one form, Fig. 2, the measuring chamber is formed by a glass cylinder 3 clamped between two end plates 1 and 2. The lower plate 2 is provided with a central double coneshaped aperture 10 the lower part of which forms a seating for a valve 11 having a stem supported in a spider 13 and carrying at its upper end an adjustable stop or closure means 15. A spring 16 normally urges the valve on to its seating. In operation, liquid enters and fills the chamber to the level of the lower end of the tube 6. A receiving vessel is pressed up against the plate 2 and the chamber slides upwardly, the stop member 15 closes the outlet of the tube 6, an air inlet is opened by way of vent 19 and slot 20 and further movement unseats the valve and allows the discharge of the measured quantity. In a modification, Fig. 3, the measuring chamber slides on a sleeve 23 adjustably screwed on the tube 6 so as to vary the amount of liquid delivered by an adjustment of the position of the lower end of the tube relative to the chamber. The stop member 30 is slidable on the valve stem and when it engages the lower end of the tube 6, actuates the valve through a lazy-tongs device comprising links 32 mounted on the stop and at the other end pivotally connected at 36 to links 33 mounted on the valve and links 37 mounted on the lower plate 2.
