Abstract
416,853. Sound-producing spinning- toys. BUTLER, J. E., 60, Snow Hill, Birmingham. March 20, 1933, No. 8314. [Class 132 (iii).] A sound-producing spinning-toy comprises a pair of balls or other bodies attached to a string or strings connected to a common handle, one or both of the balls being constructed or shaped to make a whistling, musical or other sound as they are whirled round. The whirling bodies 1 are connected to the ends of strings 2 or a doubled over single string passed through an axial hole in a handle 4 and retained therein by attachment to a button 4. The bodies 1 comprise a cylindrical metal cup member 5 glued or otherwise secured to the wooden cap 6 having a hole or holes 7 of square, rectangular, triangular, circular, oval or irregular shape to produce sounds when the bodies are whirled in opposite directions. Reeds or other vibratory devices may be provided opposite or adjacent the holes. The cup member 5 may contain a pea or small ball 8 co-operating with the holes 7 to modify the sound produced. In a modification shown in Fig. 7 each body 1 is formed with a transverse hole 9 fitted with a pair of metal discs 10 each formed with a small central aperture 11. The bodies 1 may be symmetrical or unsymmetrical and may consist of balls, solid or hollow, and may be composed of a non-metallic mouldable material. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 13092/89, 20491/89, and 21637/97, [all in Class 132].
