Abstract

Trifluoro-dimethylacetone for use as a refrigerant, may be prepared by heating trifluoroacetoacetic ester with dilute sulphuric acid, or by the condensation of ethyl trifluoroacetate and ethyl acetate in the presence of sodium in an ethereal solution to form sodium trifluor-acetoacetate which is then decomposed by excess dilute sulphuric acid.
