Abstract

Cellulose ethers, e.g. benzyl cellulose, triethyl cellulose, or other water-insoluble cellulose ethers to be used as media for filtering fluids are employed in granular form, in the form of felt or paper or other aggregation of short lengths of fibres or in the form of a fabric. The fabric may be made from spun yarns of cellulose ether or by subjecting fabrics comprising cellulose, e.g. cotton, to benzylation or other etherification.ALSO:Cellulose ethers, e.g. benzyl cellulose, triethyl cellulose, or other water-insoluble cellulose ethers are used as media for filtering fluids particularly for filtering acid or alkaline liquors or gases. The cellulose ether may be used in association with other filtering-media such as charcoal, fuller's earth, diatomaceous earth, zeolites, &c. The cellulose ether may be used in granular form, in the form of felt or paper or other aggregation of short lengths of fibres, or in the form of a fabric. The fabric may be made from spun yarns of cellulose ether or by subjecting fabrics comprising cellulose, e.g. cotton, to benzylation or other etherification.
