Abstract

[Class 103 (vi).] In order to minimize vertical vibration the body 37 of a railway &c. vehicle is wholly or partly transmitted to the axle-truck or bogie frame by means of pneumatic cushions 29 of rubber or like material, while lateral shocks between the frame and bogie are absorbed by means of an additional cushion 35. In the construction shown the cushions are carried by a transverse member comprising a base 21, transverse vertical walls 19, 20, longitudinal vertical walls 110, 111 and a central troughshaped member 23, 24, the whole being united by plates 22 to the side members 10, 11 of the bogie frame. The cushions 29 are mounted on hubs 30 slidable to a small extent against the action of springs 33 on pins 27 secured to the members 10, 11, 110, 111 and to the walls 24 of the central member 23. The cushion 35 is spring-mounted on a king-pin 26 secured to the base of the member 23 and co-operates with a cylinder 36 fixed to the vehicle body 37. To prevent tilting of the body due to the deflation of the cushions on one side, rollers 40 on the under side of the body are adapted to co-operate with upper and lower tracks 42, 44 on the bogie. For inflating the cushions 29 at one or other side of the bogie, a common bore may be formed in the hub 30, and the pins 27, 28 may in this case be dispensed with. In a modification the king-pin 26 is secured to the vehicle body, and the cushion 35 mounted thereon co-operates with the trough member 23.
