Abstract

415,626. Batteries. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd., and HOLT, H., 36, Hyde Road, Denton, near Manchester. Dec. 8, 1933, No. 34621. [Class 53.] A battery comprising a number of cells is provided with a lid 3 common to all the cells and having projecting portions 4 which enter the open ends of the cells. Each projection 4 is provided with a washer 5 which engages the inner surface of the corresponding cell. The washer may be of channel shape and may be snapped into position over the projection 4. The latter may be tapered, the washer being of corresponding shape. In a modification, the washer is provided with a flange which fits between the lid and the upper edge of the cell. A strengthening strip 9 may be secured inside or outside the upper end of the cell. The connectors between the cells are moulded in the lid which may be provided with contact blocks 13 for use with a miner's lamp, and with a gas vent 14. The cells may consist of accumulators of the kind employing an acid electrolyte, or of the nickel iron type.
