Abstract
415,535. Invisible-ink pictures &c. McCORQUODALE & CO., Ltd., 15, King Street, Guildhall, London, and BAGGALEY, F. H., 480, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton-cum- Hardy, Manchester. May 9, 1933, No. 13408. [Classes 11, 93, 132 (iii), and 146 (iii).] Means for amusement, educational, decorative, conjuring, and other purposes comprises two separate preparations, one consisting of starch and an acid and the other of a watersoluble iodide and a water-soluble nitrite, one of the preparations being carried by a suitable surface, and the other being adapted to be brought into contact therewith to react chemically and set free iodine which produces a blue-black colouration of the starch. The substances preferably employed are starch, citric acid, and potassium or sodium iodide and nitrite ; the starch and acid may be mixed and applied to a paper or other surface in the form of characters, lines, &c. by writing, drawing, painting, or if desired by printing, when glycerine may be added to the preparation. The second preparation consisting of the iodide and nitrite, to which a water-soluble gum such as gum arabic may be added, may then be washed over the surface. The second preparation may be in the form of a powder or the like to be dissolved in water by the user, or may be dissolved in a water-soluble adhesive and coated on a suitable surface for use in the manner of a cake of water-colour paint. Alternatively the second preparation, to which glycerine may be added, may be printed on the surface at the places not occupied by the first preparation, and the two may be caused to mix by washing over the surface with water. The second preparation may also be provided in the form of a coating on a separate surface for transfer by means of a brush or sponge and water to the surface carrying the first preparation. The whole of the surface to be treated may be coated with starch and the acid may be applied in the localized places where subsequent colouration is desired.
