Abstract
414,972. Retorts for low-temperature carbonization. GUAGNINO, A., 151, Rue de Cregui, Lyons, France. Feb. 6, 1934, No. 3867. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1933. [Class 55 (i).] A retort for the low temperature distillation of carbonaceous materials comprises a fixed frusto-conical, externally heated, longitudinally-gilled cylinder 1 surrounding a movable frustoconical cylinder 3, the material to be distilled being located in the compartments formed by the cylinders and the gills 2. The fixed and movable members taper in opposite directions to each other, the wider end of the fixed cylinder being at the bottom. In the charging position, the cylinder 3 is partly raised, the carbonaceous material charged into the retort and the cylinder then rammed into position. The semicoke is discharged by opening the oven door and raising the movable cylinder.
