Abstract

414,585. Vehicle &c. lamps. JOHNSON, R. W., 14, Fleming Road, Wyoming, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. Jan. 27, 1934, No. 2871. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] A vehicle or like lamp comprises a lens or like closure 13 having a shoulder 14 spaced from its rim 15, the sizes of the shoulder and rim being respectively substantially equal to and slightly greater than that of an opening in the front 12 of a lamp casing 11 made of resilient metal and provided interiorly with resilient means which retain the shoulder in engagement with the opening but permit the closure to be moved inwards to withdraw the shoulder from the opening so that the casing may be distorted to change the opening and permit withdrawal of the closure through the changed opening. The opening, closure, and shoulder are preferably circular, the changed opening being elliptical, and the closure may or may not be fitted with a separate mounting ring or band. In the form shown, the rim 15 bears against a packing ring 17 in a groove 18 formed at the rim of the reflector 16, and the rear of this groove engages a ring 19 carrying a number of spaced helical or other springs 20 which seat against a flange 22 on a ring 21. The lens may be correctly located with reference to the casing by providing it with a lug adapted to engage a correspondingly shaped notch in the casing.
