414,468. Friction clutches. ARCHDALE & CO., Ltd., J., and JEWSBURY, J., Ledsam Street, Birmingham. April 4, 1933, No. 10070. [Class 80 (ii).] In a vertically-arranged multi-plate clutch comprising one set of plates d having outer projections g engaging slots h in a driven drum b and another set of plates c having inner projections k engaging slots l in a driving shaft a, two diametrically-opposite projections of each plate have axial extensions which, when the clutch is disengaged, are adapted to rest, in the case of the extensions i of the projections g, on a flange e of the drum b, and, in the case of the extensions j of the projections k, on a shoulder f on the shaft a, the lengths of the various extensions being such that the plates are held separated. Alternatively, the whole of the extensions may be adapted to rest on a single surface ; or the extensions may project upwardly and have hooked ends adapted to coact with a member arranged above the plates.
