Abstract
Aqueous emulsions, further dilutable with water, containing chlorinated rubber are obtained by mixing a solution of chlorinated rubber in a non film-forming solvent such as carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene or resin oil, with a dispersing or emulsifying agent in the presence of a limited quantity of water. The emulsifying agent may contain protective colloids such as casein or glue and waxes or wax-like chlorinated naphthalenes may be added to and treated with the chlorinated rubber. Examples: (1) to a warm solution of casein, 2 parts, ammonia, 0,1 part of NH3, and turkey-red oil, 6 parts, in 35 parts of water, 20 parts of chlorinated rubber dissolved in 80 parts of trichlorethylene are slowly added with stirring; (2) 20 parts of oleic acid saponified with 20 parts of sodium silicate in 200 parts of water are stirred at 100 DEG C. into 5 parts of chlorinated rubber dissolved in 25 parts of resin oil; 125 parts of water containing casein, 8 parts, and ammonia, 0,5 parts of NH3, are then added. Reference is made to the solution of chlorinated rubber in about an equal weight of a drying oil such as linseed oil, or an equivalent drying condensation product, with or without oils such as chinawood oil, solvents such as solvent naphtha, or plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate or dicresyl phosphate, and the working up of the products with emulsifying agents and water.
