Abstract
An age-hardenable copper alloy containing 4-10 per cent nickel and 1-3 per cent aluminium, the ratio of nickel to aluminium being about 3-4 to 1, is made by adding an alloy consisting of about 3-4 parts nickel and 1 part aluminium to copper or an alpha copper alloy such as alpha brass or bronze. The manufacture of an alloy consisting of 92,5 per cent copper, 6 per cent nickel, and 1,5 per cent aluminium is described, the alloy being then hardened by quenching from 900 DEG C., re-heating for two hours at 500 DEG C., and cooling. The primary nickel-aluminium alloy is preferably added in the form of small lumps, granules, or powder to the molten copper or copper alloy. Specifications 401,313, 401,314, and 402,796 are referred to.
