Abstract
412,984. Wire and like winding-machines. RICHARDS, S. H., Highlands, Wood End Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, and LLOYD, H. J., Thorpe Lodge, Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex. Jan. 5, 1933, No. 419. [Class 120 (ii).] In speed-regulating mechanism for wire-winding &c., machines of the kind in which the speed of rotation of the spool is reduced by driving it through two coned pulleys and an endless belt displaced longitudinally thereof, the belt fork is adapted to be displaced by means of a nut and lead screw combination, the lead screw being rotated step by step by means which comprise a clutch device, permitting the amount of the rotation being varied, to suit the thickness or diameter of the wire &c. being wound, actuated from a cam on the same shaft as the cam oscillating the guide-arm directing the wire, &c. to the spool. The coned pulley 5 drives the coned pulley 4 connected with the spool shaft 2. The belt 3 is moved longitudinally of the pulleys by a belt fork constituted by a jockey pulley 6. A cam 25 is formed on its curved surface with a cam groove to oscillate the traverse arm 26, and on its end surface with a double snailcam groove 24 adapted to rock the system 20, 21, 22 connected to the clutch device. This latter comprises a boss 9 fixed to and concentric with the lead screw 8 and an eccentric member 10<a>, between which is arranged a roller 11, rocked by an arm 13, which may be weighted, through pads 12, by the system 20, 21, 22. An adjustable graduated stop secured to framing of the machine is used to vary the movement of the arm 13 of the clutch device and thus to control the movement of the lead screw. To re-set the mechanism for a new winding operation, the arm 13 is lifted to free the roller 11, and held in the up-position by a spring catch, the lead screw being rotated by a hand wheel 28. The shaft 31, carrying the cams 24, 25, is driven by a high ratio reduction gearing 32-35 from the spool shaft 2, or, alternatively, by a shaft carrying a separate coned pulley, belt-driven from pulley 5, another belt fork being provided on the nut 7, so that the speed of the cam shaft is reduced in proportion to the reduction in speed of shaft 2. In an alternative form of clutch device, the outer member 10<a> is not eccentric but formed with two concentric portions of different radii joined by short eccentrically running surfaces.
