[Class 47 (ii).] Relates to self-closing fire-proof doors of the kind in which the door is held normally from closing by latch mechanism embodying a fusible link or the like, and consists in latch mechanism which is adapted normally to engage the door automatically to hold it open and is capable of being moved independently by hand to release the door, whilst operation of a heat-sensitive device allows it to be turned out of the way of the door. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the leaves 1, 4 and 2, 3 of double self-closing doors are held in the open position by catches 8 pivoted on rods 9 in casings 11 at opposite sides of the doorway 6. In the open position, the inner leaves 2, 4 lie behind the outer leaves 3, 1, rollers 7 on the inner leaves engaging the rear surface of the outer leaves. A weight 14 suspended in each casing 11 and pivoted on the rod 9, has an adjustable screw 17 in engagement with the catch 7. The weights are connected by a cable 18 stretched across the doorway and embodying a fusible link. When the link fuses, the weights turn about the rods 9 and raise the catches 8, so that the doors close, the engagement of the rollers 7 with the leaves 1, 3 ensuring closing of the leaves in correct sequence. For manual closing of the doors, the catches are raised by hand, preferably simultaneously. The catches have a bevelled nose 12 to facilitate the opening of the doors. In a modification, Fig. 8, the catches are in the form of levers 25 pivoted on vertical pivots 28 and having hinged end portions 26 engaged by projections 30 on the leaves 1, 3. For manual closing of the doors, the portions 26 are raised by hand. As applied to double doors of the single-leaf in-folding type, one-door is retained by one of the catches described. above, and the other by an adjustable trip catch adapted to be tripped by the first door when closing. In the case of doors of the compartment type, Fig. 13, the doors 42, 43 are retained by catches 8 as described above, and the doors 44, 45 by catches 46 on rock-shafts 47, which are rocked by trip members 49 as the doors 42, 43 close. In the case of folding doors, Fig. 18, the door 50 is controlled by a catch 8 and the door 51 by a latch and trip mechanism 46, 49. The doors 52, 53 are held open by bolts 54, which are withdrawn by cables 55 attached to the doors 50, 51. Means for procuring the manual release of both catches 8 simultaneously, Fig. 21, comprises a rock shaft 56 carrying two levers 58, 59 which lie respectively above and below the two catches 8.
