Abstract
412,555. Driving belts. ALEXANDER, F. W., c/o Lewis & Tylor, Ltd., Gripoly Mills, Cardiff, and AITKEN, A. K., c/o Dick, Ltd., R. & J., Greenhead Works, Bridgeton, Glasgow. Dec. 24, 1932, No. 36600. [Class 80 (i).] An endless V- belt is made by winding rubberized yarn as described in Specifications 344,414, [Group IX], 405,311, 405,312, and 405,313, [all in Group V], or fabric woven from such yarn, under tension on to a rotary mould or former and consolidating - preferably under heat and pressure. In the apparatus shown, the rubberized yarn 13 is wound from the bobbins 12 through a tensioning device 14 and traversing device 15 on to the forming drum or mould 21. The grooves 20 are lined with rubberized fabric, and after the body of cords is formed, the edges of the fabric are folded over to enclose the yarn. The belt is then vulcanized by admitting steam to the hollow interior of the mould through a cock 29, while pressure is applied by a roller 30. The impregnated yarn &c. may be subjected to further impregnation with vulcanizers, activators, and accelerators, either between the bobbins 12 and the mould 21 or when wound upon the mould. In the latter case, the impregnating liquids may be introduced into the interior of the mould and forced out through perforations into the material. The belt may be moulded to its final shape on a separate mould. A further wrapping of rubberized fabric may be applied. In the Provisional Specification, Specifications 338,381, [Class 120 (iii)], and 411,460, [Group IV], also are referred to.
