[Class 64 (ii).] The opening movement of the discharge valve of a steam trap for discharging condensate from steam lines under pressure, is unresisted by the internal pressure within the trap. A bucket float 17 sinks by accumulation of condensate in the trap 1 and withdraws a needle valve 13 from a port 14 which extends through the nose of the main piston valve 6 from the interior thereof to the discharge tube 5. The piston valve is thus opened and the condensate flows by way of ports 19 to outlet. In a modification, the piston valve 6, Fig. 4, is always in balance, the space above the piston being in continual communication with the outlet 31. The valve is connected to a closed float 28 by a lost motion connection. In a further modification, in addition to the port 14, a port 24 Fig. 3, is arranged in a plug valve 23 so that on partly rotating the valve by the fall of the float opens and closes the ports 14 and 24 respectively and vice versa on the rise of the float. The plug valve is arranged within the main valve as in Fig. 1.
