Abstract
412,409. Cigarette-making machines. BECO MASCHINENFABRIK GES., 7, Riesaer Strasse, Dresden, and LORENTZ, V., 19, Residenzstrasse, D÷lzschen, near Dresden, Germany. June 19, 1933, No. 17416. [Class 130.] Oval cigarettes, having a seam formed at or near one end of the major axis, Fig. 15, are manufactured by the continuous-rod process. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a tobacco rod 1 on a paper strip 2 is carried by a conveyer 3 through the inlet A of a forming- member B. Grooves formed in a finger 6 and a guide member 5 guide an oval rod having its major axis in an oblique position. One of the edges of the paper strip is forced around the rod by a finger 10, and adhesive is applied to the other edge which projects through a slot 15. A curved duct 18 between fingers 10, 11 superposes the edges of the strip 2 at the end of the major axis. In a modified construction, Fig. 5, the rod 1 is placed on the paper 2 asymmetrically and passes through an asymmetric guide 5<11> and wedge-shaped prisms 19, 20 place the paper partly around the rod which has its major axis in a horizontal position. The edges are superposed by the fingers 10<11>, 11<11> and to prevent the adhesive margin of the paper strip 2 from being applied to the conveyer belt 3, a groove 21 lifts this part of the belt.
