Abstract

412,112. Toy roundabouts. WELLS & CO., Ltd., A., 90, Somers Road, Walthamstow, London.-(Assignees of Longoni, A., and Volpi, M. ; 30, Via Macedonis Milloni, Milan, Italy.) Nov. 22, 1933, No. 32611. Convention date, May 30. [Class 132 (iii).] A toy, e.g. a model aeroplane or bird, is caused to move round an upright support by means of a gyroscope which also balances the toy. The aeroplane, bird or other model 14 is detachably secured to the stem 13 connected by pin 21 and recess 19 to the socket 12 in screw-threaded connection with the frame 7 in which is journalled the shaft 8 of the rotor 5 contained in the casing 3. The bearing at one end of the shaft 8 is constituted by the end 11 of the regulating screw 10 and at the other end by a ball 9 attached to the socket 12 and positioned on the circular rim 4 of the tubular support 2 of brass with a socket base 1 weighted with lead. A reel 18 is provided on the shaft 8 for guiding the string for starting the rotor 5, the reel having a hole 22 for receiving the end of the string. The conical front piece 17 of the aeroplane 14 may be made detachable for packing purposes. During the rotation, the stem 13 moves upwardly until the casing 3 touches the base 1, and then gradually descends until the aeroplane touches the plane of support of the base 1. The rim 4 may be enlarged in which case the system would turn about a pivot which is being displaced along a circle. To render the angular displacement of the stem 13 more rapid, a circular groove may be provided in the conical surface of the shaft 8 which will engage with the rim 4. The motion of the gyroscope makes the system vibrate, producing a noise resembling the buzz of an aeroplane, which noise is due primarily to the tubular nature of the support 2 which may either be hollow throughout its length or may be solid at its lower portion and provided at its top where it receives the ball 9 with a cavity, for example of conical form.
