411,971. Machine guns. VICKERSARMSTRONG, Ltd., LARSSON, C. A., and HIGSON, P. R., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster. Feb. 6, 1933, No. 3640. [Class 92 (ii).] Relates to recoiling-barrel guns of the Vickers type in which the crank B is connected to a centrally-arranged compression returnspring D, and in which symmetrically-disposed projections B<2> engage a member E on the gun casing to initiate the angular movement of the crank. According to the invention, the compression spring is arranged at an angle to the axis of the gun with its forward end bearing against a part D<1> pivoted to the crank above the crank axis, and its rear end supported by a curved bearing D<3> on a part D<4> mounted on the rear wall of the gun casing. The part D<4> is preferably in the form of a screw-threaded plug adjustably carried by the handle-block for the purpose of varying the initial compression of the spring. The angular movement of the crank is limited by the engagement of faces B<3> on the crank with stop faces B<4>.
