Abstract
409,677. Helical springs. ADAMS, L. E., 29, Wellfield Road, Dial Stone Lane, Stockport, Cheshire. July 27, 1932, No. 21153. [Class 108 (iii).] Helical springs in which the finished cross-section of the material is either rectangular or elliptical and in which the major axis of the section of the material is perpendicular to the axis of the spring, are constructed from a bar, the ratio of the major to the minor axes of the crosssection of which lies within the range of the ordinates of the curves S, Figs. 2 and 3, and in which the value of the mean diameter of the spring divided by the square root of the cross-sectional area is given by the abscissa of the curve S, Figs. 2 and 3 when the cross-section of the finished material is rectangular and elliptical respectively, thus facilitating determination of the actual dimension of the mean diameter.
