[Class 135.] A device for closing a pipe of a hydraulic brake system in the event of a serious leak in the pipe or in a brake cylinder connected thereto comprises a ball-valve in a downwardly bent part of the pipe or in a downwardly bent pipe connecting two pipes, the valve being seated by the flow of the liquid. In Fig. 2, a downwardly bent part 8 of the pipe leading from the source of supply to a brake cylinder contains a ball-valve 10 which has clearance in relation to the wall of the pipe and normally sinks to the position shown. If, in applying the brakes, the flow of the liquid is sufficiently rapid the valve is carried upwardly and if there is a leak reaches the seat 9. An enlargement 11 limits the movement of the valves during the return flow of the liquid. In Figs. 3, 5, the downwardly bent pipe 8 connects two main pipes branching from a common pipe 3 and has seats 9<1> for the valve 10.
