Abstract
408,850. Tilting and rocking furnaces. GOTTSCHALK, K., Csepel, Hungary. Aug. 1, 1933, No. 21610. [Class 51 (ii).] In a furnace for converting copper matte, crude copper, or copper alloys, into pure copper, the charge is melted, and alternately air is blown in and powdered carbonaceous material is mechanically forced under the surface of the molten metal. The furnace is rotatably mounted on rollers 6, may be tilted on trunnions 8 by means of toothed segments 9, and is heated by a burner 12 which may swing about an axis 13 and which is supplied with gaseous or liquid fuel, or coal dust. Air is supplied through a pipe 26, valves 25, pipes 14 and flexible tubes 15 to distribution boxes from which tuyeres emerge. Coal, preferably degasified, or charcoal is introduced from a pump 28 supplied by a bunker 34 and provided with a compressed air tube 30 above a piston 29. The tuyeres 18, 19 lead from the distribution boxes 16, 17, tangentially to the furnace lining and are preferably arranged in two rows with separate supplies and closure means. A number of tuyeres may be connected to one pump and a number of pressure pipes may issue from the pump cylinder. Each pressure pipe 14b is preferably inclined to the axis of the tuyere.
