Abstract
408,598. Knitting-machines. BENTLEY, P. A., GODDARD, J. H., MANGER, C. F., WAINWRIGHT, C. H., and BUSWELL, G. A., Komet Works, New Bridge Street, Leicester. Oct. 7, 1932, No. 27868. Addition to 301,350, [Class 74 (ii)]. [Class 74 (ii).] In a circular knitting-machine having two or more feeders, one, which feeds a main yarn and a plating yarn, is arranged so that immediately it moves from its feeding position towards its associated yarn trapper and cutter, its yarns cease to be knitted by the needles. A latch retarder engages the latch of each needle as the latter is descending and prevents its sudden closing. The machine shown has five feeders. The special feeding device consists of two parts 130, 132, Fig. 1, one feeding the main yarn, and the other the plating yarn. Their shanks slide in the end walls 136 of frame member 138, whilst studs 156, 157, carried on blocks 154, 155 adjustably fastened to the shanks, slide in slots 158, 159, formed in the top plate 140 of frame member 138. Either or both slots may have an inclined portion 160. Set screws 162, 164, adjustably limit movement to the left and movement of the shanks to the right may be adjustably limited by a single set screw 166, the blocks 154, 155, being arranged to overlap. The shanks are moved to the left by an arm 148 ; shock at the end of the movement is eliminated by spring loaded sleeves 150. The return movement is effected by springs 152. The inclined portion 160, causes axial rotation of the shank 134, and consequently allows vertical adjustment of the associated feeder end 130 of the needle. The cutting and trapping device (Fig. 3) consists of a flexible blade 174, notched at its end, and contained in a casing 176, closed by a bottom plate 178. The blade is projected by an elbow lever 180, registering in a slot in the blade and actuated by wire 184 and is retracted by a spring pressed plunger 185. The latch retarder consists of a hooked member 186, Fig. 4, adjustably secured in a holder 190 rotatably mounted on the inclined end of a post 192, and removable from the operating position by wire 196 against the action of a spring 194. The needle cylinders rotate in a counter clockwise direction as seen in Fig. 1, and the stitch cam is approximately under the feeders when in the feeding position. The other feeders 10 move to the left to their cutting and trapping devices 84 ; their dipping is controlled by studs 128 in cam-slots 124. Control units are shown at 210. Specifications 15008/00, [Class 74], 24290/12, 171,483, and 301,360, [all in Class 74 (ii)], are referred to.
