Abstract

408,268. Medical &c. heating appliances; electric resistances. ROBINSON, J. A., and NUNES, C. J. DA C., 48, Travessa de Santa Rita, Rio de Janeiro. Oct. 4, 1932, No. 27577. [Class 81 (ii).] An appliance employed for local heating of the body comprises a backing D of felt or the like and a piece of fabric F stitched thereto along preferably parallel lines o to form open ended pockets into which an electric heating cord a is loosely inserted in doubled lengths as shown. The cord a comprises a single length (about 10 metres) of insulated nickel-chromium or other resistance wire, doubled and twisted upon itself and connected through a flex k and a switch p with a plug l. The insulation may comprise asbestos or like strings spirally wound, or four or more such strings, about 1/16 inches thick, laid parallel to and around the wire and having a cotton or other covering. Alternatively two cords such as a but of differing resistance may be interplaited and connected by a three-wire flex to a three-pole switch at p such that either cord or the two cords in series may be used. The single or double cords may be employed independently of the backing D by winding round the part to be treated or by insertion of the end thereof into the ear.
