Abstract

407,053. Winding yarns etc.; creels. RICHARDS, S. H., Highlands, Wood End Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, and LLOYD, H. J., Thorpe Lodge, Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex. Sept. 9, 1932, No. 25184. [Class 120 (ii).] In a machine for winding wire, thread, or the like of low tensile strength from one bobbin to another, both bobbins are frictionally driven from a common drive member in such a manner that the speed of winding remains constant. Means are provided for adjusting the pressure on the frictional driving member, for compensating irregularities in rate of feed or take-up, and for starting the machine gradually from rest. A friction wheel 2 having a rim of rubber or the like drives the supply bobbin 7 and the take-up bobbin 13 by contact with the windings thereof. The thread or wire is led over a counterbalanced tensioning lever 19. The bobbins are mounted in cradles 9, 9<a> ; 14, 14<a> pivoted at 10 and 15 to the lever 11, 11<a> pivoted at 12, which latter allows the bobbins to be removed from driving contact with the wheel 2. The pressure exerted by each bobbin on the driving wheel is adjusted by moving a weight 16 along a bar 17 held in the cradle 9<a> or 14<a> depending from the bobbin support. The machine is started gradually from rest by slowly moving the lever 23, 24 so as to tension the driving belt 4. The driving wheel 5 also drives the cam 26 which reciprocates the traverse arm 25.
