Abstract
406,883. Change speed epicyclic gearing. KITTILSEN, C., Lille Traag, near Porsgrunn, Norway. May 3, 1933, No. 12957. Convention date, May 3, 1932. [Class 80 (ii).] Four-speed and reversing gearing suitable for vehicles comprises stepped bevel planet gears 7, 7<1> supported on a spider 4 with a central barrel 5 which is loose on the ends of driving and driven shafts 1, 2 and has dog ends 21, 22. The planet gears mesh with a loose central gear 6 on the driving side and with two loose central gears 8, 9 on the driven side. The position shown, in which the dog ends 21, 22 are engaged by clutch heads on sleeves 11, 12 splined on the driving and driven shafts 1, 2, respectively, yields solid driving or third speed. If from this position the sleeve 12 is moved right to engage a clutch ring 28 on the gear 8, and a stop dog 13 is moved in to hold the gear 6 fast, the fourth speed or overdrive is produced. Second and first speeds and reversed drive are effected by appropriate displacements of the clutch sleeves 11, 12, the stop dog 13, and another stop dog 14. Arrangements are described for controlling these clutches and stops by sliding and revoluble multiple cams respectively.
