405,992. Recovering benzol from gases. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Benzola Ges. ; 20, Breite Strasse, Oberhausen, Germany.) Aug. 15, 1932, No. 22892. [Class 55 (ii).] In a process of recovering benzol from distillation gases by washing with oil, the yield is increased by preventing the accumulation in the wash oil of substances, such as phenol or naphthalene, which interfere with the absorption and liberation of the benzol by the oil. This is done by subjecting the gas prior to washing with oil to the action of water in relatively large quantities, or by subjecting the wash oil freed from benzol by steam distillation, or the residue from the re-distillation of the raw benzol, after separation of naphthalene by cooling, to indirect distillation, the distillate so obtained being cooled to separate naphthalene, steam distilled and the product re-introduced as wash oil into the process. These alternative methods may be used together. The gas after treatment with water may be led through one or more towers in which a reduction of the speed of the gas stream causes a separation of the naphthalene. The above described processes may be associated with the method of fuel distillation described in Specification 405,996.
