Abstract
405,626. Decorticating fibrous leaves or stalks. OAKES, H. I., 52, Walton Vale, Liverpool. June 4, 1932, No. 15820. [Class 120 (i).] In apparatus for decorticating the leaves or leaves and stalks of fibre yielding plants and for the mechanical treatment of decorticated fibres, the material is subjected to a rolling pressure between a number of rollers and a breast plate, the pressure being accompanied by a sliding movement of the material across the breast plate. The apparatus comprises a concave breast plate 1, Fig. 1, a disc 2 mounted on a shaft 22 and to which are secured discs 23, 24, Fig. 2, carrying loosely rotating shafts 13-17 on which are mounted a number of rollers 3-7 of conical formation, and a number of pressure rollers 8-12, Fig. 3, having a rubber leather or like yieldable surface. The material is gripped between a chain wheel 20 and chains 21. The rollers 3-7 may be serrated or fluted while scraping blades 25 tapered away at 26 are also secured to the outer periphery of the discs 23, 24. The Provisional Specification describes also arrangements wherein the axis of the breast plate is obliquely inclined to the axis of the drum 2, while the breast plate may be stationary, rotatable or oscillating.
