405,149. Intermittent toothed gearing. SCHUTTE, A. H., 76, Rheinallee, Deutz, Cologne, Germany. April 27, 1933, No. 12312. Convention date, May 3, 1932. [Class 80 (i).] A Geneva mechanism has driving-gear for increasing the angular velocity of the actuating arm while it engages the slot, and correspondingly decreasing the velocity of the arm during the idle part of its revolution. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a pair of toothed wheels 2, 8, the former fixed to the driving-shaft 1, have gear-segments of different pitch diameter joined by intermediate engaging surfaces 5, 6, 11, 12. An arm 13 fixed to the shaft 7 of the driven wheel 8 carries a roller 14 and a disc 9, which engage the Geneva cross for the stepwise rotation of a member 24. By this means the speed of the arm 13 is increased during indexing, and decreased during the idle part of its rotation, so that the arm makes a complete revolution in the same time as the driving-shaft 1. In the form shown in Fig. 2, rollers 32, 33 on the ends of an arm 31 attached to the toothed driving wheel 28 enter slots in the wheel 42, and, in co-operation with the curved portions 30, 37 on the two wheels, serve temporarily to arrest the rotation of the arm 40, so that its time of revolution equals that of the driving shaft 27.
