Abstract
Vat-dyestuff pastes are prepared by making a stable reduction product of a dyestuff of the general formula:-- <FORM:0405092/IV/1> wherein X stands for alkyl or hydrogen, and R for an aromatic nucleus, especially a benzene nucleus, which may be substituted, into an aqueous paste and incorporating therein a derivative of zinc, iron or copper (with the exception of copper sulphate), and a water-soluble derivative of benzylsulphanilic acid, dimethylsulphanilic acid or a -naphthalene sulphonic acid. The term "stable reduction products" refers to the products obtainable from 4.4<1> - dimethyl - 6.6<1> - dihalogenindigos by the processes of Specifications 334,878, 334,919, and 338,104, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], or obtainable in an analogous manner from other dyestuffs of the above general formula. These pastes retain good printing capacity on storage. In an example the stable reduction product of 6.6<1>-dichloro-4.4<1>-dimethylthioindigo is mixed up in an aqueous paste with ferrous sulphate, glycerin and sodium benzylsulphanilate. Specification 389,915 also is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the use in the above pastes of a water-soluble derivative of benzylsulphanilic acid or another hydrotropic substance, but this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
