[Class 65 (ii).] Pivoting adjustments.-A door pivot comprises a pin held against rotation in one member and bearing in a socket in the other, the pin having one or more depressions or longitudinal grooves and being engaged by an adjustable spring- pressed detent, sliding in a housing transverse to the axis of the socket, to hold the door against light pressure in one or more predetermined positions, one of which may be the closed position in the case of a swing door to prevent the door from being slightly opened by wind without the necessity of using a strong closing spring. Means may be provided to retract the pin axially from the socket when it is required to remove the door. In the form shown, for a swing door opening in both directions, the pin 1 is held against rotation in a socket 9 on the lintel and bears in a socket 2 in the top of the door, which is shown closed ; the pin is longitudinally slidable in the socket 9, to facilitate mounting of the door in its frame, by a lever 11 pivoted at 12 in the frame and having one end engaging the pin 1 and the other actuated by a screw 14 accessible when the door is open. A horizontal cylindrical housing 17 communicates with the bore of the socket 2 in the door by a hole in the wall of the socket, and a spring- pressed plunger 19 in the housing 17 carries a roller 21, or has a hardened nose, which projects through the hole into the socket to engage either of two diametrically-opposed grooves 15 in the pivot pin 1 to hold the door open when opened in either direction. The outer end of the spring bears against an adjustable bush 23 screw-threaded into the end of the housing 17 and serving as a guide for the plunger stem. The pin may be prevented from rotating in the socket 9 by ribs in the socket engaging the grooves 15 in the pin. A groove similar to 15 may be provided to retain the door closed, either in addition to or in place of the grooves shown ; for a door opening in one direction only one of the grooves 15 is dispensed with ; additional grooves may be provided to hold a door open at other angles. When applied to a door opening only in one direction, the housing 17 may be arranged at an angle to the plane of the door and may project from the socket 2 in a direction away from the door-post, so that the bush 23 is accessible at one side of the door.
