[Class 118 (ii).] The lower end of the front signal arm described in the parent Specification is formed as a, ball or cylinder which serves as a switchactuating mechanism for controlling the circuits through which the rear signal arms are actuated. In Figs. 2, 3 and 10 the upper ends of spring-pressed plungers el, e<2>, e<3> housed in the base e<3> are received in recesses d, d<1> in the ball D, the recesses being of the shape shown, whereby when the front arm A, to which the ball is secured, is in the vertical non-signalling position all the contacts e, e<4>, e<5>, e<6> are open. Upon swinging the arm to the left or right, or backwards or forwards, the appropriate one or more contacts are closed to operate and illuminate the relevant rear signal and also to light the lamp in the front arm and one or both of two pilot lamps in the circuits of the rear arms. The plunger may be replaced by one or more contact makers carried by and projecting radially from the ball and co-operating with fixed contacts. In the cylinder construction shown in Fig. 18 a projection h<3> engages contacts K when the front arm is moved to the left or right to press them against other contacts k in the circuits of the solenoids operating the rear arms. The front arm may be illuminated by an independent manually operated push button, and is retained in its non-signalling position by a spring-pressed pin h<2>.
