[Class 52 (iii).] In an extensible table of the kind with a disappearing intermediate leaf, rack gearing is fitted so that both end leaves move simultaneously, and the racks are fitted with camlike devices for raising and lowering the intermediate leaf. Fig. 2 shows a table with two end leaves 1 and an intermediate leaf 3 on X-links 9 ; rack bars attached to the end leaf 1 on the right carry depending brackets 20, Fig. 5, each made with slots 22 and other parts designed to engage with a pin or roller 14 under the leaf 3, by means of which vertical movement is imparted to it when the right-hand leaf 1 moves outwards, carrying with it the parts 20, 23, the pin 14 under the leaf 3 engages the incline 22<1>. The slotted part 23 then moves backwards on the pins 24, 25 on the part 20, and bridges the opening 22 leading to the slot 21 in the part 20. The end leaves 1 being then moved inwards, the parts 20, 23 again move relatively, and the slot 22 opens ; the pin 14 then rises into the slot, lifting the centre leaf.
