Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31204. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] Pneumatic blow-outs.-In switches in which the arc is extinguished by a blast of vapour a condensation device for the exhausting vapour is connected directly behind the point of interruption 1, 2 and is adapted to increase the vapour velocity at the contacts. This may take the form of a metal tube 8 of decreasing crosssection, arranged in the form of a spiral so as to exert a centrifugal action on the vapour and separate it from the liquid. A helical rotating motion in the direction of the tube-axis may be imparted to the vapour by guiding surfaces within the tube, and the condensate is collected by rings, as 9, and led away. With a metal tube 8, the lead may be connected at 10<1> instead of 10. The cooling effect of the metal may be enhanced by external fins or by an insulating jacket containing water. Alternatively, the vapour of one or more switches may be exhausted into the existing condensers of steamplant in the power-station, and the boilers of such plant may supply the arc-extinguishing vapour. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to arc-extinction by gas and to the application of the invention to the vapour generated in a water-break switch. Such subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
