Abstract
403,173. Preventing fires. DENNISON, KETT, & CO., Ltd., and MOSS, D. J., Kenoval House, Farmers Road, London. Aug. 10, 1932, Nos. 22371 and 31543. [Class 47 (ii).] Means for initiating the closure of a rolling shutter in case of fire comprises a gapped rotary driving member which normally is held inoperative by a fusible link and is arranged, when released, to be driven by a spring and engage a rotary member associated with the shutter. The double shutters 1 are wound on drums 2 and normally are operated by a manual winding gear comprising a hand wheel 16, shaft 12, and bevel gears 11, 10, 8, 7. The automatic closing gear comprises a pinion 18 fast on the shaft 12 and a driving drum. The latter comprises a gear wheel 19, Fig. 5, which is rotatably mounted on a shaft 27 and has some of its teeth removed to leave a gap 20. Normally, the drum is held, with its gap 20 opposite the pinion 18 and its driving spring 24 wound up, by a cable 30 embodying a fusible link. When the link melts, the drum is rotated by the spring 24 so that the gear wheel 19 drives the pinion 18 in a direction to lower the shutters. The drum is arrested by stops 28, 29 after one revolution, the lowering of the shutters continuing under gravity. In a modification, the automatic closing gear is applied to a double self-coiling shutter. The gear wheels described may be replaced by friction wheels or spur wheels.
