[Class 103 (i).] To minimize variation of the curvature of brake shoes which arises from the unequal heating of the rear part of the shoe relative to the face that is subject to friction, such variation of curvature preventing the uniform application of the friction face to the wheel, the shoe is divided into a number of sections a<1>, a<2>, a<3> that are flexibly connected together by an iron strip b welded in the back of the shoe and are spaced apart as at a to allow expansion of the sections.
