[Class 38 (iii).] During the transition of compound-wound traction motors from series to parallel and vice versa, a part of the total number of motors, one half for example, is short-circuited, and the shunt excitation of all the motors is reduced to a suitable value. Speed control and regenerative braking are effected by control of the shunt and series fields.
