Abstract
402,590. Moulding dough, chocolate, &c. KREMMLING, A., Hamersleben, Oschersleben, Germany. Nov. 9, 1932, No. 31689. [Class 87 (ii).] In machines for feeding and depositing plastic material such as dough, sugar confections, or the like, a conduit 9 is provided between a hopper 1 and an extrusion chamber 39 and is mounted for vertical reciprocatory movement relative thereto. Plastic material is fed from the hopper 1 by rolls 6, 7 supported by the conduit, to the chamber 39 and thence through one or more die apertures 4 on to a table 63. The hopper 1 telescopes into the upper part of the conduit 9 which in turn telescopes in a part 3 of the extrusion chamber. The rolls are intermittently rotated and the conduit is reciprocated by levers operated from a crank disc on a main shaft 17, the mechanism including two levers 35, 36 operating ratchet devices for rotating the rolls and two levers 31 connected to the conduit. Both pairs of levers may be operated from a lever 27 such that rotation of the rolls to feed the material into the chamber 39 only occurs as the conduit is moved upward. The rolls may be fixed in spaced relation, or one or both may be movable toward the other by links operated from a cam on the shaft 17. The rolls may be normally urged apart by a spring. They may be moved together and cease to rotate as the conduit is lowered so as to cut off the hopper supply and feed material in the chamber 39 through the die 4. A wire cutter comprising a wire 170 mounted on fingers 70 is reciprocated across the die aperture and also moved down to position cut material on the table 63, by mechanism 71-76 driven from the shaft 17. A conveyer 46 on the table 63 may be operated by ratchet and lever mechanism connected to the conduit-operating mechanism. The table 63 is pivotally mounted at one end ; it may be moved up to receive material cut by the wire 170 and moved down completely to sever the material and carry it away, the operation being controlled by a rod 64 driven from a cam on the shaft 17. The apparatus may be used for depositing, in which case the wire cutter is dispensed with and the die replaced by nozzles which may be stationary or moved by links connected to a cam disc 54. The degree of intermittent movement of the conduit, table, conveyer and wire cutter and of rotation of the rolls may be controlled by including in each operating mechanism a pivot pin which is adjustably set in a slotted guide forming part of the mechanism, the setting being controlled by a hand-wheel. The degree of movement of the rolls toward one another may be controlled by a hand-wheel setting the position of a lever 57 on an operating rod 60 and also by adjustable stops for the lever 57.
