Abstract

400,926. Wire and like winding- machines. RICHARDS, S. H., 10, Patten Road, Wandsworth Common, London. April 23, 1932, No. 11765. [Class 120 (ii).] In wire-winding and like machines, means are provided, in combination with the traverse guide for laying the wire on the reel, to reduce the rate of rotation of said reel each time the guide completes a traverse along the winding reel. The wire is laid upon a reel a by a guide b mounted on an arm c adjustably pivoted at d in a slot e, and connected by an adjustable link g to an arm h reciprocated by a cam i. The link g is movable along the arm c to adjust the throw of the guide b. The shaft j carrying the cam i is rotated from the reel shaft k by worm gears m, n. The shaft k is driven from the shaft r by oppositely coned pulleys o, p and a belt q which is adjustable along the pulleys by a belt fork 5, pivoted at 6 in a slot 7. The belt fork is moved by means comprising a pulley 9 around which passes a cord 10 connected to two drums 11, 12 of different diameter, on a shaft 13, carrying a ratchet wheel 14, which is rotated by a pawl 16 connected by a lever 21 with a cam 20 on the shaft j. Each reciprocation of the guide b by the cam i corresponds to a single rotation of the cam 20, which being double causes two movements of the wheel 14. The turning of the wheel 14 shortens the length of cord 10 between the shaft 13 and pulley 9 so that the fork arm 5 is drawn against the spring 23 towards the shaft 13. A pawl 17 adjusted by a screw 18 and bell crank lever 19 limits the stroke of the pawl 16. At the completion of a winding the pawls 16, 17 are disengaged from the wheel 14 which is wound back by a handle 15 to the starting position. The shaft r is driven by oppositely coned pulleys s, t connected by a belt 2 from a shaft w carrying fast and loose pulleys x, y. The position of the belt 2 on the pulleys s, t is adjusted by the screw 3 and handwheel 4 and determines the initial winding speed. The stepped pulleys u, v are for use in the wire drawing operation.
