Abstract

399,114. Cardboard &c. boxes. SMITH, G. and SMITH, C., 97, Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, London. April 6, 1933, No. 10345. [Class 18.] In a box formed from a cardboard &c. sheet by bending up a blank so that a lip or flange is produced around the edge of the box proper and/or the edge of the lid, and wherein the blank comprises a plain central portion 1 and a plurality of wings 3 extending therefrom, each of which is bent inwardly and then upwardly, the end wings having extensions 8, 10 adapted to engage in overlapping fashion extensions 6 of the side wings, thereby interlocking meeting edges of adjacent wings and reinforcing the walls, the end wing extensions 8 of the blank are formed with sections 8a adapted to be connected to the side wings, e.g. by glue or staples. In the case of the box lid the side wings may carry marginal extensions 6a cut away at their extremities to allow the sections 8a to lie flush therewith. Finger holes 14 may be provided. The base may be reinforced by a stiffener 2.
