Abstract

398,963. Hinges. TIMINGS, S., 55, Great Hampton Street, Birmingham. May 31, 1932, No. 15379. [Class 65 (ii).] In a hinge, particularly for mirror sections, comprising two plates connected together, one plate is adapted for attachment to one of the members to be hinged and the other has associated with it a detachable plate adapted to be secured to the other of the members to be hinged, one of the associated plates having portions pressed up or bent over to form opposed channels adapted to receive portions of the other plate and to be disengaged therefrom by relative movement parallel to the hinge axis. The portions of the second associated plate which engage with the channels of the first may also be formed by pressing up or bending over portions of the plate. The channels and the portions engaging therewith may be of diverging or converging form along the length thereof, so as to avoid looseness and to limit the engaging movement. The plates are adapted to be formed by pressing or stamping from sheet metal. In the form shown in Fig. 3, one plate 6 of the hinge is arranged for screwing to one of the members to be hinged, while the other plate 7 has parts 24 of its opposite edges bent as shown to engage channels 23 formed by the bent-over edges of a plate 22 fixed to the other member to be hinged ; the lower ends of the channels 23 are closed in to form stops for the engagement of the parts 24 on plate 7. In a modification, the plate 7 may have a single downwardly-extending tongue pressed up out of it to engage the channels 23 on member 22. Alternatively, the edges of the plate 7 may be bent inwardly to form channels similar to 23, the top of plate 22 being bent to stand forward from its lower part and form a tongue to engage the channels on plate 7 ; in a modification of this arrangement, the channels on plate 7 are formed by striking up parts similar to the parts 24 in Fig. 3 but reversed to face one another.
