Abstract

397,539. Cable joints. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, London, and WOOD, H. G., Kinross, Leesons Hill, Chislehurst, Kent. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5386. [Class 38 (i).] To provide for expansion and contraction of the joint filling material and of the cable sheaths at a joint in a cable system using lead-sheathed cables, such as a pressure cable system, the body of the joint casing is of a more or less flexible nature, preferably taking the form of a radially corrugated or fluted sleeve sl, and is connected to the cable sheaths ls bv circumferentially corrugated flexible end-pieces di. In a modified construction, one end-piece only is used, the sleeve sl being directly connected to the sheathing of one cable. In the construction shown, the sleeve and end-pieces are of thin copper and are welded or plumbed together and to the cable sheaths.
