Abstract
397,050. Coke ovens. STILL, C., Recklinghausen, Westphalia, Germany. March 13, 1933, No. 7546. Convention date, March 23, 1932. [Class 55 (i).] Distillates are withdrawn from a coke oven through ducts 17 disposed in the interior of the charge, and extending at the top into a gas collecting space 5, the width of which is considerably less than that of the oven chamber 2. Each space 5 is screened from the heating flues 4 by insulating spaces through which air may pass, or by insulating layers 20, so that the distillates may not be overheated before passing to the outlet main 8. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, passages 10 lead the gases from the space 5 to a collecting pipe 9 leading to the outlet 8, the fuel being charged through slanting ducts 13. The brickwork bounding the gas collecting space 5 is either made in one piece from stamped fireclay or the like, so as to be jointless, or from a small number of blocks, so that the joints may be made tight by yielding packing such as asbestos.
