[Class 106 (iv).] A recording-mechanism for measuring instruments and apparatus comprises an attachment with an auxiliary index connected to a recording element the index being controlled manually or automatically by coupling it directly to the moving member so as to follow or copy its movement. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the attachment comprises a casing with drums 4 carrying a record-strip and one or more displaceable slides 6 carrying marking elements 1 and a stylus 2 for marking time graduations.. Each slide is connected to an auxiliary index 8 co-operating with a scale plate 9 and adapted to be moved by hand in coincidence with the rectilinear movement of the moving element of the measuring instrument. If the attachment is separated from the instrument the auxiliary index may be connected to the slide by threads 17 in sheaths 21. To copy the angular movement of a pointer the auxiliary index is arranged as shown in Fig. 3. A frame 10 mounted on the face of the dial has a slot 29 in which is mounted a sliding piece 11 on which is pivoted the auxiliary device 12 that is movable by hand over the scale 15. In one mode of operation the slide 11 is clamped in the central position and the pivot 13 of the arm 12 is arranged coincident with the instrument pointer. To the arm 12 is clamped the ends of a thread 17 guided around pulleys 19 and on the arcuate surface of a member 18 forming part of the slide. Movements of the arm are transmitted by the thread to the slide 6 and marker 1. The device of Fig. 3 may be used also with rectilinearly moving pointers by clamping the arm 12 in its central position and moving the slide 11 along the slot in coincidence with the pointer movement. An example of the use of the device is shown in Fig. 5, wherein the speed and power of a generator are recorded by the markers 1, 1<1> of an attachment the threads 17, 17<1> of which are operated by the coupling sleeve 23, 24 of a speed governor and by following the pointer of the power meter 25<1>. If desired one of the controlling threads may be utilized to drive the record-strip instead of using clockwork.
