Abstract
396,096. Refrigerating. WILLSIE, H. E., 8419, Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. Jan. 29, 1932, No. 2761. [Class 29.] Absorption machines.-A syphon conduit 26 for draining liquor back from a sump 24 in the evaporator 18 of a machine working on the reversing system is arranged in heat exchange at 27 with the vapour expulsion pipe 8 of the generator-absorber 1, whereby the heat of the expelled vapour at the end of the generating period serves to evaporate liquid in the drain pipe and thus produce a back pressure therein and prevent further drainage. The generatorabsorber has a liquor circulation loop 3, 6 including a coiled portion 5 located in a brine tank 7, and the vapour expulsion pipe connects with a liquid seal 11, from which vapour passes by pipe 14 to a rectifier coil 15 located in a brine tank 16. The rectifier is connected by a bent pipe 17, 19 to the evaporator, and a pipe 21 connected to the slanting portion 19 of this bent pipe leads to a condenser coil 22 in a further brine tank 23. Some expelled vapour passes direct from the rectifier to the evaporator, but the greater part flows down the pipe 21 to the condenser, and at the beginning of the absorption period the condensate rises through the pipe 21 and flows down the pipe 19 to the evaporator. The vapour returns from the evaporator through the rectifier to the trap 11, and is then diverted to a pipe 12 connected to the liquor circulation loop at a point 13 below the normal liquid level in the generator-absorber. The drain conduit 26 has a widened bore where it adjoins the expulsion pipe 8, to which it is welded at 27, and is connected to the return vapour pipe 12 at a point 29 above the generator-absorber level. The brine in the several tanks may be cooled by water circulated through jackets 31, 32, 33 in series. The disposition of the parts in a divided flue at the back of a refrigerating cabinet is described, the condenser and rectifier tanks being in one part of the flue and the generator-absorber, liquid trap and connecting pipes in the other part. The drain conduit may include a horizontal loop with one limb welded to a horizontal part of the vapour expulsion pipe, and the loop is embedded in insulation so as not to be subjected to the cooling action of the draught through the flue.
