Abstract
395,604. Roller bearings. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN, 17, Artillerigatan, Gothenburg, Sweden. Dec. 28, 1932, No. 36712. Convention date, Jan. 7. [Class 12 (i).] In a roller bearing having two or more sets of cylindrical rollers, inner and outer cylindrical race members, and guide rings for the rollers, at least one guide ring is axially fixed to one of the race members, at least two guide rings are axially fixed to the other race member and none, or not more than one, of the axially fixed guide rings is made integral with a race member. In Fig. 1, two sets of cylindrical rollers 3, 4 are positioned between a ring 7 fixed to the inner race member 2 and rings 5, 6 axially fixed with respect to the outer race member 1. The ring 7 is split and engages a groove 14 extending most of the way round the member 2, the raised interrupted part taking into a recess 17 adjacent the split 16 to prevent relative rotational movement between the parts 2, 7. The rings 5, 6 which are undivided, are non-rotatably connected to the member 1 by tongues engaging corresponding recesses in the member 1, and are axially fixed by split rings 8, 9 which can be sprung into grooves 13 by means of holding lugs adjacent the splits. In assembling the bearing, the ring 7 is positioned first, then the roller set 3, the ring 5 and the ring 8. The bearing is then reversed and the roller set 4 inserted similarly. In a modification, undivided rings are positioned on either side of the ring 7. In another form, four roller sets are spaced by five guide rings, the two outer rings and the centre ring being axially fixed on the outer and inner race members respectively and the remaining rings being axially movable. One of the outer rings is integral with the outer race member. The thrust, according to its direction is taken by one of two double roller sets. Another modification has also four roller sets spaced by five guide rings, three being axially fixed to the outer member 1, and two to the inner member 2. A form with three roller sets has four axially fixed guide rings on each of the members 1, 2, these being between and outside the roller sets. Undivided rings may be positioned on each side of an inner split ring in any of the constructions. The undivided rings may all be made the same size and their tongues may be dispensed with. All the constructions are designed to take axial thrust in both directions.
