Abstract
395,312. Uniting by fusion. VEREINIGTE STAHLWERKE AKT.-GES., 67, Breitestrasse, D³sseldorf, Germany.- (Assignees of Ges. fur Elektroschweissung; 100, K÷rnebachstrasse, Dortmund, Germany.) April 3, 1933, No. 9953. Convention date, April 6, 1932. [Class 83 (iv).] In fusion welding a structural joint particularly by automatic carbon electrode arc where the molten metal for the structure is inclined to flow down by gravity to make an uneven joint, the fluid metal is held up or spread in an even corner fillet by a rotary magnetic field caused by a coil round the electrode. The field rotates from the unwelded position to the finished weld as the electrode is drawn along. The metal for the welding fillet is obtained from a projection a of the joint or is supplied by a welding-rod. The method applies also where the molten metal or the electrode is protected by inert gas derived either from flux, or from the evaporation of a solid or liquid, or from special supply nozzles.
